The Move
Graduation, the sale of our Las Vegas home, Christmas, and our PCS to Texas have all happened since the last entry. It was sad to see the old house go but certainly a weight off our shoulders. Graduation was a great time. It was probably one of the more emotional events for us for many reasons. I got to watch my last students walk across the stage and one receive top honors. We had so many friends there from different periods in our life to include friends from Tucson, my Weapons School classmates (Trailer Park WUGS!) and our fellow Barnyard friends. It was great to see them all but tough knowing that this move to Texas pulls us out of the same circle we’ve been in for the past 5 years. There have been so many great experiences shared with these friends, and our children have been growing up together. They have all been our family and they will all be deeply missed, though I’m sure we’ll stay in touch through the years. Ramiro and Elise were probably our closest friends and it was especially painful to say goodbye to them, but they are from San Antonio so I’m sure we’ll see them again.
The drive to Texas was long and uneventful which is great considering all the potential issues (the kids, animals and towed vehicle). 26 hrs driving time over 2 days. Unfortunately our house was not finished when we got to TX. We had laborers walking through the house for a solid week. The house is still not complete and I’m beginning to get a little frustrated. But overall we love it here. Our fat old dog and the kids are getting more exercise than they’ve had in 2 years. It is quiet and peaceful out here and a bit of a change to see stars instead of the light of the Luxor. It has taken some adjustment to fall asleep without the sound of sirens and heavy aircraft traffic. There are no crack smokin’ prostitutes or homicides out here. The wildest thing so far has been a stray dog that has some of the neighborhood ladies concerned. The closest convenience store is over 3 miles away and my drive to work is 30 miles. We’ve had visitors every weekend and were able to make it to San Angelo for the holidays. It’s good to have some family members around the kids. Bryce’s PaPaw came down and we put a swing in the tree for the kids. I’ve been tackling the land which is covered in rocks and prickly pear. We still have a lot of old friends here too. All in all, we are happier about this move than any we’ve experienced (despite part of our household goods still sitting in Las Vegas and many of my most treasured items such as my recording equipment sitting somewhere in Turkey). We are thankful to be here and to be together. We hope most of you will be able to visit sometime.

Great pictures, great memories! I miss ya’ll (TX talk for ya)so much. It was really nice seeing you again Lisa, even though it wasn’t for very long. It looks like the house is coming along, you’re settling in!! That’s a lot of land to work with, can’t wait to see all the ideas ya’ll come up with. Miss you guys, give the kids a hug from me! Ethan says “hi” to Bryce!!
I really enjoy your website and get a lot of info from it w/o having top waste telephone time. I love all of you and am sooooo glad we’ll get to see each other more often now. The house in Vegas was great but the one you have now is so perfect. Hope ya’ll always love it!
Melanie and I look forward to seeing you guys again soon! It’s too bad that San Antonio is no closer to us than Vegas was!
I’m waiting for new pictures!–Gwynn
